As a self-help technique, creative visualization is quite simple to use once you know how.
First, you need to relax yourself into a relaxed and quiet state of mind, slowing your brain waves down from the high Betas to the lower Alpha or Theta brain waves.
Once you’re in that quiet and peaceful state of mind, imagine yourself as having achieved your goals. Maybe it’s a new job where you will be happy, satisfied and fulfilled and which provides abundant financial rewards. Imagine being enthusiastic and 120% motivated as you start work everyday. Your colleagues are all helpful and supportive. See yourself achieving your career goals and receiving abundant financial rewards.
Visualize and picture every little detail you can think of, for example, the number of hours you work, your interaction with your boss, the responsibilities given to you, etc. etc. In other words, see yourself actually experiencing and living out your visualization, as if it had already happened.
Think about how you would feel if that scenario had really come true. Feel your emotions. Emotions are very powerful and will greatly help you manifest with creative visualization.
Once you visualize the idea or image firmly in your mind, mentally say some positive affirmations to yourself, either silently or verbally.
Simply repeat this short exercise once or twice a day for about 10 to 20 minutes. It’s best to do it just before going to bed or when you just wake up in the mornings. Or, if that’s not convenient, you can do it anytime you like or just think about it whenever you can.
Before long, if your desires and intentions are truly aligned with your inner self, and are in your best interests, you’ll start seeing things or changes happening to help you achieve your goals.
See, didn’t I tell you that it’s easy to learn how to manifest with creative visualization, right?

Does Creative Visualization Really Work?
Yes, creative visualization works.
If you’re familiar with Eastern philosophies and teachings, you’ll find that many of the principles in creative visualization very familiar. In fact, it’s a very common technique that’s used in many self-help techniques. You could say that it’s like one of the basic underlying foundations behind other more sophisticated self help methods.
Some of the other self-help techniques which use creative visualization include meditation, the Silva Mind Control method, hypnotherapy and many others. For some, it’s quite obvious if they’re incorporating creative visualization in their programs. For others, it’s a bit more subtle and you may not realize that they’re actually based on the underlying principles of creative visualization.

4 Common Mistakes When Learning to Manifest with Creative Visualization
However, simple as it sounds, most beginners don’t practice this technique properly. Many people try to manifest with creative visualization without fully understanding how it works or, even worse, doing it incorrectly. Not surprisingly, they don’t get the results they want and quickly give-up, thinking that manifesting with creative visualization is just a load of BS...
So if you’re interested in learning how to manifest with creative visualization, just continue reading. I’m going to list down some of the common mistakes that beginners make when they try to manifest with creative visualization.
- Be Realistic
Choose something realistic and achievable.
Now, it’s not that creative visualization doesn’t work with the big goals. It’s just that the really big goals and dreams need a lot more energy and time to accomplish, and you’ve got to work at it much longer than the smaller dreams.
Start with the smaller goals first. Then, when you start to manifest your goals and your confidence grows, go for the larger, more ambitious goals.
Let's get real here.
No matter which self-help technique you choose, you’re not going to lose 20 pounds and become slim and sexy in just one week. And if you’re hoping to strike the lottery so that you can pay off the mortgage and bills, well, all I can say is, Don’t hold your breath waiting. It might take a while...
So, when you first start to manifest with creative visualization, don’t be too ambitious and bite off more than you can chew. After all, you’ve got to learn how to walk first before you can run, right?
- Relax!
Simple as it sounds, one of the most common mistake that beginners make when manifesting with creative visualization is NOT relaxing deeply enough.
Many people don’t realize it but even when they’re sitting quietly and thinking that they’re sufficiently relaxed, they’re actually still quite tensed up.
Thinking about relaxing is not the same as actually relaxing!
Being able to relax deeply is very important when learning to manifest with creative visualization. That’s because when your body and mind are deeply relaxed, your brain wave patterns slow down to Alpha brain waves. This is important as studies have shown that creative visualization is much more effective when you’re in Alpha brainwave state.
However, if your body and mind are not sufficiently relaxed, your brain waves patterns are likely to be in called Beta brainwave state.
There’s nothing wrong with being in Beta brainwave state. After all, it’s what you function in during your everyday normal waking consciousness. However, if you remain in Beta level, you’ll actually be thinking about your goals instead of actually visualizing about them.
It may seem like a small difference, but it’s a very important distinction. Sort of like thinking about doing something, like riding a bike, and actually riding a bike itself.
So, bottom-line, if you want to learn how to manifest with creative visualization, you’ll be a lot more effective if you’re able to relax deeply.
So, the best advice I can give you?
Relax!
SIMPLE RELAXATION TECHNIQUE
| Learning how to relax is more important than you think. Besides the beneficial health and mental aspects, almost all other self-help techniques require you to relax deeply in order to gain the most benefits.
So, if you’re having trouble relaxing, here’s a simple relaxation technique that you might find useful.
- First, find yourself a place where you won’t be disturbed for about 10-20 minutes. You can either sit cross-legged or if you find it more comfortable, get a straight-backed chair. (You don’t want to get too comfy otherwise you might fall asleep!)
- One very effective way of relaxing yourself is to focus your attention to the various parts of your body and feeling the tension in that particular body part just flow away. Remember to breath deeply and slowly throughout this exercise.
- Start with the tiny hair muscles on your scalp. Feel these tiny, little hair muscles on your scalp relaxing as you visualize the tension flowing out from your scalp through your head and body and finally out through the soles of your feet.
- Next, repeat the same relaxation & tension releasing exercise on your forehead, cheeks, jaws, neck, chest, arms, stomach, buttocks, legs, etc. Just imagine a wave of relaxation going through your body as you release all that tension away, flowing away from you, out through the soles of your feet.
- Now go back to the top of your head again, to the tiny little muscles on your scalp and see if there’s any tension still left. If so, release the tension and stress and continue down your body. Do this a couple of times, imagining a wave of relaxation flowing through your body.
If you’ve done this successfully, you’ll be able to feel the difference almost immediately. By then, you’ll be feeling quite relaxed and peaceful. Just remember not to fall asleep if you’re planning to do any meditative or creative visualization exercises.
By the way, this relaxation technique is also quite useful if you’re having difficulties sleeping...=)

- Focus on Clear Goals
Another common mistake that most beginners make when trying to manifest with creative visualization is to constantly keep changing their goals and objectives, or don’t have a clear idea of what they really want.
I know, because that’s what I used to do when I first learnt to manifest with creative visualization. It took a while to discipline my thoughts but eventually, I learnt to focus on a clear image or goal, and to keep focusing on that image until it manifests itself.
To manifest with creative visualization, you’ve got to have a clear idea of what you want. Once you know clearly what you want, focus and keep sending positive energy to your vision until they manifest into your life.
It’s like going to a restaurant and trying to order a meal. If you don’t know how you want, or if you keep changing your mind every two minutes, the waiter and chef won’t be able to prepare your meal.
Got it?
- Letting Go
After you finish your session in creative visualization, just let it go.
Don't keep on thinking of it all the time. After your creative visualization session once or twice a day, don’t think about it. Just forget about it until your next session.
| Now, I know that many people, including Shakti Gawain>, recommend that you should keep sending positive energy to your goals or image throughout the day, whenever you have the time to think about it.
However, I have a slightly different view on this, based on my experience when I first started trying to manifest with creative visualization.
First, let me say that there’s nothing wrong with sending positive energy to your goals or visualizing about it throughout the day.
The problem is, more often than not, most people (myself included) will tend to do everything else except send positive energies to your goals.
Usually, most people end up reliving the bad times in the past (when the supposed lack of something caused them grief), or recreate an imagined fear in the future (thinking about what might happen if they didn’t achieve their goals).
Both of these kind of thoughts are not helpful, and actually makes it difficult for you manifest with creative visualization. Instead of moving towards your goals, you’ll end up moving away from your goals.
It took a while for me to learn to discipline my thoughts, and to be honest, I still make the same mistakes thinking about negative things when I should be focusing on the positive side of things.
The best way that I know of to "Let Go" is the Release Technique. It's a very powerful personal growth technique and will greatly help you in your creative visualization practices. It certainly helped me.

So, the best way, at least until you learn to discipline your thoughts, is to just let it go and don’t think about your visualizations during the day.
It’s like planting a seed and waiting anxiously for it to grow into a plant. If you keep digging up the seed every few hours to see if it’s started growing, that seed definitely won’t grow into a plant ‘cos you’re likely to have killed it by digging it up.
So there you have it.
Four common mistakes that beginners make when learning to manifest with creative visualization. They all seem like really small and simple things, but if you don’t get them right, you’ll find that trying to manifest with creative visualization is going to be tougher than it seems.
Now that you know, that should help you to manifest with creative visualization, right?
